Rhombal features veteran explorer Ellery Eskelin on tenor saxophone engaging with brilliant young trumpeter Adam O’Farrill in the midst of the deep rhythm team chemistry Crump and Tyshawn Sorey have formed in collaboration for over a decade, primarily in Vijay Iyer Quartet and Trio. The group just released released its first recording, a body of work written for Crump’s late brother, Patrick. The album, Rhombal, was successfully fan-funded through PledgeMusic and arrived 9/13/16 on the Papillon Sounds label.

Memphis-bred, Grammy-nominated bassist/composer Stephan Crump has lived in Brooklyn since 1994. As a longtime collaborator with adventurous jazz composers (since 1999 with Vijay Iyer) as well as guitar visionary Mary Halvorson and singer-songwriter Jen Chapin, he has become known for the elegance and purposeful groove of his acoustic and electric bass playing, and for transforming his instrument into a speaking entity with magnetic pull. As a composer, he is emerging as a singular voice. His music can be heard in numerous films and on his ten critically acclaimed albums as leader.
